NICOLE KLAYMOON

Nicole Klaymoon is a dance-maker, poet, and visual artist, and the Founder and Artistic Director of Embodiment Project (EP), a Bay Area–based performing arts organization that envisions a world where dance is integrated as a critical dimension of social and cultural revolution. Her work centers underrepresented narratives and is informed by ecofeminism, Kingian nonviolence, restorative practices, and advocacy against childhood sexual abuse. EP has premiered 12 original evening-length multidisciplinary works, including Music of the Actualized Child, Ancient Children, Belly of the Whale, and X RATED PLANET. Klaymoon has also choreographed three dance films produced by the San Francisco Dance Film Festival. Klaymoon has been recognized as a KQED Woman to Watch and has served as a resident choreographer at ODC Theater, Headlands Center for the Arts, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the National Center for Choreography Akron. She co-founded SEEDS, the first hip hop youth dance company at the ODC Dance School, and holds a B.A. from UCLA and an M.F.A. from CIIS.
