This high-energy class is rooted in the techniques of Samba no Pé and is designed to build strong fundamentals, musicality, endurance, and confidence. Inspired by the teachings of Alex Coutinho and Jorge Amarelloh, each class also explores different dance styles from across Brazil while always returning to samba as its foundation.Come ready to sweat, connect, and push yourself to the next level. All levels are welcome!
Mayela Carrasco is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, lifelong student, and Artistic Director of Loco Bloco who uses dance as a tool for self-empowerment, community building, and cultural exchange.
She has studied various dance styles since the age of two, with a primary focus on Afro-Brazilian movement. Since age 17, she has traveled regularly to Brazil to study with master artists. Her learning and cultural exchange work have also taken her to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Hawaiʻi, and across the United States.
For over 10 years, Mayela has taught dancers of all ages and experience levels. Her teaching emphasizes musicality, technique, endurance, self-expression, and respect for the histories and communities from which the movement comes. She believes dance and music are powerful ways to connect with ourselves and one another.
