Oct 4: The Liberartion Academy presents Vogue with Jocquese Whitfield

On Saturday, Oct 4 from 1-3pm, Jocquese Whitfield, aka Sir JoQ, will present a special Vogue class for Dance Mission’s Liberation Academy.

This class is only $10 (sign up here) and no one is turned away for lack of funds at the door.

This is an in-person workshop at Dance Mission Theater and is open to all!!

Vogue is a dance and cultural art form that orginigated in teh Harlem ballroom scene of the 1970s, created by bBlack and Latinx LGBTQ- communities. Inspired by the poses of models in Vogue magazine, it features angular arm and hand movements, striking poses, and dramatic transitions between static positions. The five elements of voguing are hand performance, catwalk, duckwalk, floor performance, and spins and dips. The dance was a way to express identity, provide a sense of dignity, and resolve disputes non-violently at ballroom competitions
