IKKAI means once: a transplanted pilgrimage, commissioned by Japanese American Citizens League San Jose Chapter, is an evening length dance choreographed by Yayoi Kambara. It weaves together modern dance and a Japanese American (JA) Obon folk dance titled Ei Ja Nai Ka, exploring the unjust incarceration of JAs, struggles for healing, and current solidarity with communities facing violence. IKKAI shares experiences of Japanese Americans (JA) illegally incarcerated during World War II and dreams of a collective future where this kind of injustice will never happen again.
