The D.I.R.T. There are many ways that an artist may address such challenges – be it from the content of their choreography, to looking at who has a voice, to their process. The D.I.R.T. Festival seeks to present dances that are rooted in social justice. The D.I.R.T. Festival is a biennial event.

This year’s festival will be held April 15-16, 2023 & April 22-23, 2023 (Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm) at Dance Mission Theater.

While we accept proposals from artists whose work addresses all themes, this year we are also seeking dance artists  who want to present work around the specific but expansive theme of CITIZEN SUPREME. It is encouraged (but not required) that artists create work that addresses issues surrounding the US Supreme Court and its recent decisions including (but not limited to) reproductive rights, gun control, religious “freedom,” and the environment.
