PASEO ARTISTICO: Honoring Our Relatives & Celebrating Indigenous People
The Mission District’s FREE bimonthly community art stroll returns October 10 for Indigenous People’s Day! Now you can watch it live via Facebook.
This October 10, Paseo Artistico pays homage to Indigenous People featuring music, poetry and dance dedicated to the history of Native people in the Bay Area. Artists and Native speakers will address political realities of Indigenous people and the significance of this upcoming election. Native AIM /Alcatraz Island Occupation activist, and board member of the American Indian Cultural District, Mary Travis-Allen will break down how native peoples have been treated here in San Francisco. The event also features poetry from SF Poet Laureate Kim Shuck, Latin jazz music from Erick Peralta, visual art from Alexander Hernandez, and the Dance Mission produced Chishkale: The Blessing of the Acorn with Tisina Parker. Hosted by Rodrigo Duran of Calle 24.
Please join us at 3PM Saturday October 10, 2020 by logging on to our Facebook Page @PaseoArtistico and @AccionLatina. FREE.
Paseo Artistico is encouraging everyone to use your voice, vote and fight for those who have historically been left out of true democracy. In that same spirit, El Tecolote Founder, Juan Gonzales and editor in chief, Alexis Terrazas will also join us as we continue to celebrate 50 Years of El Tecolote, a people powered bilingual newspaper. We also invited several businesses from 24th Street Latino Cultural District to join us live on Facebook. Featured businesses include Frida’s Closet, La Mejor Bakery, Diju Jewelry, La Palma (see below for addresses). Join us for this powerful and exciting event to honor all our relatives and celebrate Indigenous People’s Day.
